Ch3: The Cell

Cards (4)

  • Characteristics of Life (M-R. G-R-E-N-R.):
    • Movement - changing position
    • Reproduction - making new living things
    • Growth - increasing in size or the number of cells
    • Respiration - releasing energy from food
    • Excretion - getting rid of waste matter
    • Nutrition - eating food
    • Response - reacting to the environment
  • Cell - the smallest working unit of an organism
  • Animal Cell:
Cell membrane - protects cell, allows substances in and out of the cell
    Ribosome - Makes proteins
Cytoplasm - watery fluid of salts and food where cells float
Mitochondria - where energy from respiration is released to
Nucleus - carries genes which control cell activity
  • Plant Cell:
Chloroplast - carries chlorophyll, used to make food in photosynthesis
Vacuole - inside cytoplasm, where food and water are stored
Cell wall - made of cellulose, provides protection for cell
Cell membrane - protects cell, allows substances in and out of the cell
Ribosome - Makes proteins, ex) enzymes
Cytoplasm - Watery fluid of salt and food where organelles float
Mitochondria - where energy from respiration is released
Nucleus - carries genes which control cell activity
