  • Baeyer’s Test
    - used for detecting unsaturation.
    - Determining the sigma and pi bond.
  • In Baeyer's Test:
    ● Benzene - Upper: Colorless. Lower : Dark Violet
    ● n-Hexane - Upper : Colorless , Lower : Dark Violet
    ● Cyclohexane - Upper : Colorless, Lower : Dark Violet
    ● Gasoline - Upper : Yellow, Lower : Dark Violet
  • In Chromic Acid Test, The positive result is yellow precipitate
  • Lucas Test
    -It is used to differentiate and categorize primary, secondary and tertiary alcohols using a solution of anhydrous zinc chloride in concentrated hydrochloric acid.
  • Iodoform Test
    -Indicate the presence of an aldehyde and ketone. Used to check the presence of carbonyl compounds.
    - Positive color : pale yellow, precipitates after heating.
    -Iodine solution smells like betadine.
    -Iodine is used for skin diseases.
  • Phenols - Aromatic compound with hydroxyl group directed bonded to the benzene wing

    - Determine the presence of Phenol.
    - Increase the concentration of Phenol in urine and blood.
    - Used to remove impurities in water for waste water treatment.
  • Phenolphthalein Formation, positive result is pink color
  • Millon's Test
    • Used to test for the presence of tyrosine.
    • Positive: Brick red color; indicates the presence of protein.
