Titanic Quarter regeneration

• Titanic Quarter limited is spending £5 billion to regenerate this 75 hectare space.
• The environment:

  • A brownfield site is being redeveloped which eases pressure on greenfield site +
  • Polluted land has been decontaminated +
  • 1.5km of walkways has been constructed +
  • Many buildings (H&W HQ) have been restored +
  • The development will take place over 30 years which will massively increase the carbon footprint -
• Employment:

  • TQ is home to over 100 companies like Microsoft and IBM
  • 15000 jobs in construction
  • 25000 jobs when completed
  • 1.5 million sq ft of business space has been made with 3 million more planned
  • Titanic belfast has attracted 3.5 million visitors from 145 countries
  • TQ has invested into stepping stones project (helps the long-term unemployed find work)
  • BUT local people do not have the necessary skills
• Housing:

  • 474 apartments constructed
  • Plans to build a further 5000
  • up to 20000 people can live in the area
  • Too expensive for locals
  • limited social housing constructed
• Transport:

  • TQ is very close to the CBD
  • The Belfast rapid transit system (BRT) saw a £90 million investment and introduced the eco friendly glider busses
  • A new train and bike station aswell as new walkways and paths
