• Carcinogen= A chemical that can cause cancer in humans or animals.
• Effects of tar:

  • Affects nose system (loses smell)
  • Damages cilia
  • Affects alveoli
  • Teeth decay
• Effects of Carbon monoxide:

  • Binds to haemoglobin instead of oxygen, so less oxygen reaching body
• Effects of nicotine:

  • Increases heart rate and blood pressure
  • Increases release of dopamine
• Cigarettes contain tar, nicotine and carbon monoxide
• Effects of smoking during pregnancy:

  • Still birth
  • Oxygen shortage - child won't grow properly
  • Increase risk of death
