• Plant and algal cells use glucose from photosynthesis to produce:

  > cellulose

  >fats / oil for storage

  > starch for storage

  > amino acids for protein synthesis
• To test for starch in a leaf is to apply iodine onto a leaf and if it is present, it will turn blue / black
