• Nitrogen (nitrates) are for poor plant growth, yellow leaves (less chlorophyll)
• Phosphorus (phosphates) are for poor root growth, discoloured leaves
• Potassium (potassium nitrate) are for poor growth of flowers and fruit
• Plants need nitrogen to produce amino acids which join to form proteins
• Plants need potassium which activates enzymes involved in respiration and photosynthesis
• Plants need phosphorus to form DNA and cell membranes
