Atomic Structure

Subdecks (5)

Cards (69)

  • Elements
    • Substance that cant be broken down into simpler substances by chemical means,
    • They are basic building blocks of all substances.
    • They are made up of only one type of atom.
  • Compounds
    • Substances made of two or more different types of atoms that are chemically joined (can be represented by a chemical formula).
    • They have completely different properties to the elements they are made from.
  • Mixtures
    • Mixture is made from different substances that aren’t chemically joined together.
    • They can only be made from different elements or compounds mixed together.
    • Can usually be separated by physical techniques.
  • Element - each molecules are the same, made up of one type is atom only.
  • Compound - each molecules are the same, consist of two different types of atoms chemically joined.
  • Mixture - two different types of molecules present, different molecules not chemically joined.
