Hooke's Law Experiment

• Hooke's Law is a law that says if you double the force on an object the extension will double
• Elastic Limit is the point beyond which a spring will not return to its original length when the force is removed
• Tension is a stretching force
• Extension is the amount by an object gets longer when a force is applied to it
• Independent variable is the variable you choose to change
• Dependent Variable is the variable is measured or observed.
• Control variable is the variable you keep the same
• Independent variable is an investigation of the effect of a variable on the dependent variable. If its categoric, ordered or discreet you draw a bar chart.
• If both variables are continuous , you use a line graph to display data
• Categoric is word label variables
• Ordered are word label variables which can be ordered
• Discrete are whole number variables
• Continuous are variables with numerical value
• Repeatable result is when the same result is obtained from the same experiment.
• Reproducible result is when a different researcher is repeating the same experiment again with a different method and equipment but end up with the same result
• Reliable data is when data is repeatable and reproducible
• Valid results is when a result is repeatable and reproducible and answer the original question
• Precise result is a result that is accurate to the nearest significant figure.
• Accurate result are when a result is really close to the true value
• A balance measures mass in kg
• A newtonmeter measures force in newtons (N) and is used to measure the force of gravity
