o Newton’s 1st Law of Motion – A body will remain at rest or in uniform motion unless acted upon by a net external force
o Body – an object with mass that is being observed
o Rest – a state of motion in which the object is not moving relative to the observer
o Uniform Velocity – Constant velocity, this means constant unchanging speed and constant unchanging direction
o Force – a push or pull exerted by an object
o Net external force – the sum of all the forces acting on a body
o Newton’s 2nd Law of Motion – Force equals to mass times acceleration (F=ma)
o Newton’s 3rd Law of Motion – For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction
o Scalar quantities – has magnitude but no direction, examples are temperature, energy, distance, time, weight
o Vector quantities – has magnitude and direction, examples are displacement, force, mass, acceleration
