Recovery processes

Cards (6)

  • RECOVERY PROCESSES
    • Ice baths - constrict blood vessels and flush waste products, reduces swelling
    • Once out of ice bath, muscles warm - increased blood flow improves healing process
    • Intense exercise causes tiny tears in muscle fibers - causes muscles to repair and strengthen
  • MASSAGES
    • Massage - involves rubbing muscles and joints with hands - reduces pain
    • Encourages blood flow - prevents muscle fatigue - prevents DOMS
    • Reduces swelling - causes fatigue in exercised muscles
  • BODY SHAPE
    Body shape may change
    1. Changes to structure of body
    2. Regular exercise reduces weight of body
    3. Anaerobic exercise increases size of muscles - hypertrophy
  • CHANGES IN CoF
    • Increases flexibility - more elastic muscles
    • Increases muscular endurance - muscles undergo more contractions - allow muscles to endure exercise for longer
    • Increases speed - rapid anaerobic exercise
    • Improves CVE
    • Stroke volume increases - bradycardia reduce to produce same resting cardiac output
    • Rehydration - replacing fluids lost during exercise
    • Energy and glucose needed to be replaced by consuming carbohydrates
