To ensure that the Indians could assimilate to the white american way of life.
What did the Indian Appropriations Act do?
As more white settlers were moving due to the westward expansions, the whites wanted the IndianTerritory. Therefore, Indians moved to reservations which was land where it was 'reserved' for Indians.
1st Importance/consequence of the Indian Appropriations Act
The Act was designed to confine the Indians in reservations and restrict the amount of land available for buffalo hunting.
This meant that the limitation of land resulted in the Plain Indians to be dependent on the US government and this made them to be more in control
2nd Importance/consequence of the Indian Appropriations act
3. This created the reservationsystem meaning the plain Indians were forced out of the traditional way of life
4. The government made the Indians assimilate into the white way of life by encouraging them to take on farming and this undermined their nomadic way of life.
