  • Power is the rate at which energy is transferred or work is done. The greater the power rating of a device , the more energy it transfers each second.
  • Power is the rate of doing work (how fast energy is transferred ) . Power is measured in watts ( W ) . 1 watt = 1 joule of energy being transferred each second.
  • A hairdryer has a typical power rating of 1500 W
  • A TV has a typical power rating of 50 W
  • A Microwave has a typical power rating of 850 W
  • A Jet engine has a typical power rating of 8.2 ( power of 7 ) W .
  • Power ( W ) = energy transferred ( J ) / Time ( s )
  • Power ( W ) = work done ( J ) / time taken ( S )
  • A hairdryer with a power of 1800 W transfers 1800 J each second .
