  • when an offender is angry, the behaviour has been reinforced by the feeling of control they percieve they have
  • anger management
    • a form of cognitive behaviour therapy where offenders are taught to recognise their triggers and apply cognitive techniques that deal with the situation in a non aggresive manner
  • stages of anger management
    1. cognitive preperation- offender reflects on their past experiences on anger and triggers, therapist identify any responses that are irrational
    2. skill acquisition- taught skills to use when dealing with situations such as self talk, meditation, communications
    3. application practice- therapist and offender act out or role play scenarios so criminal can practice new skills, if successfull therapist uses positive reinforcement to reward the new behavioural response
