Motor Effect

    Cards (4)

    • A wire carrying a current through a magnetic field will feel a force acting on it = motor effect
    • Direction of the force can be determined using Flemings left hand rule
    • The size of the force depends on:
      • size of the current - increasing current = force on wire.
      • strength of magnetic field - stronger magnet = increase force on wire.
      • length of wire in field - increasing length of wire = increase force (multiple loops of wire).
    • Equation:
      • F = BIl
      • F = Force in N, B = Magnetic field in strength in T (Tesla), I = Current in A, l = length in m
