Editing

• Editing and shots are structured around the development of the gag, edited for precise comic timing.
• e.g In High Sign, where the dog tries to eat the steak which is revealed every time Keaton rings the bell - editing perfectly timed to enhance comedy through cross-cutting between Keaton stepping on pedal and dog lunging outside.
• e.g. In the opening of Cops, framing and editing create gag - mid-shot of Keaton clinging onto bars makes us believe he's in jail, then cutting to a long shot which reveals Keaton is behind the bars of a garden gate instead (this shot also demonstrating how he's "locked out" from the wealthy world of his girlfriend)
