Auxins

• Auxins are a plant hormone which controls growth near the tips of shoots and roots
• Controls the growth of a plant in response to phototropism (light) and gravity (geotropism)
• Uses

  • Killing weeds - they distrupt their normal growth patterns
  • Growing from cuttings with rooting powder - helps to produce roots quickly and makes clones very quickly
  • Growing cells in tissue culture - stimulates cells to divide to form roots and shoots
