  • what is magnification?
Magnification is defined as the size of the image divided by the size of the real object. Magnification tells you how big an image is compared to the real object. Use a ruler to measure the size of the real object and the image. Make sure to use the same units for both.
  • what is resolution?
The number of pixels in an image or display.
  • describe the characteristics of an electron microscope?
    • more resolution
    • more magnification
    • isn't easy to carry
    • expensive
    • specimen must be dead
    • black and white images
  • describe the characteristics of a light microscope?
    • easy to carry around
    • cheap
    • no training required to use
    • colour images
    • specimen can be alive
    • low resolution compared to electron
    • lower magnification too
  • what is the formula for magnification?
magnification = size of image/size of real object
