• Define the terms Eukaryotic and Prokaryotic cells.

  Eukaryotic: DNA is contained in a nucleus, contains membrane-bound specialised organelles.

  Prokaryotic: DNA is free in cytoplasm, no organelles.
• Describe binary fission in bacteria.

  Replication of circular DNA;

  Replication of plasmids;

  Division of cytoplasm.
• What organelles do animal cells contain?

  Cell-surface membrane;

  Mitochondrion;

  Nucleus;

  Ribosomes;

  Rough endoplasmic reticulum;

  Smooth endoplasmic reticulum;

  Golgi apparatus;

  Lysosomes.
• What organelles do plant cells contain?

  Chloroplasts;

  Cell wall;

  Vacuole;

• Describe the function of mitochondria?

  Site of aerobic respiration;

  To produce ATP for energy release e.g. active transport.
