    • Contagious viral infection

    • Pregnant women
    • refer any case of suspected mumps
    • GP must notify the local health protection team (HPT), who will arrange a saliva collection to confirm diagnosis
    • Must notify the GP before attending so they can prepare for risk prevention
  • Treatment
    Paracetamol liquid- Ibuprofen liquid
  • Counselling
    • Apply a cool or warm compress to the glands to help relieve pain
    • MMR vaccine covers this
    • Keep hydrated (avoid citrus juices as this may worsen the pain)
    • Keep child off school about 5 days after the swelling appears
