Ch6: Mass movement

Cards (1)

  • Factors affecting mass movement:
    • Gradient - the steepness of the slope. A steeper slope means the regolith moves faster.
    • Water content - water makes regolith heavier. Heavier regolith moves downhill faster. Water also acts as a lubricant.
    • Vegetation - grass and shrubs protect the soil from weathering and erosion. The roots of a tree bind the soil together, preventing soil erosion.
