symptoms of slapped cheek syndrome
Initial symptoms:
Feeling unwell for a few days
High temperature
Runny nose
Sore throat
Headache
symptoms after a few days:
Red rash
appears on
1 or both cheeks
Few days later a
spotty rash
may appear on the
arms/legs
Rash can be
raised & itchy

Groups at risk: REFER
Weakened
immune system
Blood disorder (e.g.
sickle cell disease
,
thalassaemia
)
Pregnant women
- refer as risk of miscarriage

Treatment slapped cheek
1.
Rest & Drink plenty of fluids
2.
Paracetamol
/
Ibuprofen
liquid - Antipyretic/ Analgesic
3.
Moisturiser
on
itchy
skin
4.
Antihistamine
liquid -
Chlorpheniamine
(Piriton)

Rash usually fades within
2 weeks
Do not need to stay off school
after the rash appears
Body rash can take between
2-4 weeks to clear
