• Nappy Rash (Napkin Rash)

  Redness across the whole or patches across the babies bottom
• Nappy Rash symptoms?

  • Sore/can be hot to the touch
  • Spots, pimples, blisters possible
• Causes of Nappy Rash

  • Skin contact with faeces and urine/greater length of time
  • Trauma - nappy rubbing against the skin
  • Not changing nappy often enough/ not cleaning the nappy area
  • Antibiotics/ Laxatives (diarrhoea effect)
• nappy rash treatment?

  
  

  • clotrimazole - Small red lesions/satellite papules - can indicate a fungal infection

  • dimeticone/castor oil- water repellent/ water resistant barrier
  • Lanolin- emollient to hydrate the skin
  • zinc- soothing agent
• REFERS in nappy rash?

  • bacterial infection- yellow crusting/weeping pus
  • Broken skin
  • >2 weeks symptoms
  • concomitant thrush in the same area or oral thrush present
• nappy rash counselling?

  • frequent nappy chanes/leave nappy off after cleansing to air dry
