Health Status - An individual's or a population's overall health, taking into account various aspects such as life expectancy, amount of disability, and levels of diseaserisk factors.
Self-Assessed Health Status - An overallmeasure of a population’shealth based on a person's own perceptions of their health.
Life expectancy - An indication of how long a person can expect to live; it is the number of years of life remaining to a person at a particular age if death rates do not change.
Mortality - The number of deaths caused by a particulardisease, illness or other environmental factor.
Morbidity - Refers to ill-health in an individual and the levels of ill-health in a population or group.
Rates of hospitalisation - The number of patients who experience an episode of admitted patient care.
Psychological distress - Refers to an individual’s overall level of psychologicalstrain or pain, and the unpleasantfeelings and emotions an individualexperiences, that interferes with their ability toperformdaily activities.
Core Activity Limitation (CAL) - Refers to needing assistance with self-care, mobility and/or communication.
Disability - And impairment of a bodystructure or function that results in a limitation in activities or a restriction in participation.
Burden of Disease - A measure of the impact of diseases and injuries. Specifically, it measures the gap between the current healthstatus and an idealsituation where everyone lives to an old age free of disease and disability. Burden of disease is measured in a unit called the DALY.
Disability Adjusted Life Years (DALY) - A measure of the burden of disease. One DALY equals one year of healthy life lost due to premature death and time lived with illness, disease or injury.
Years of life lost (YLL) - The fatal burden of disease of a population, defined as the years of life lost due to death.
Years lost due to disability (YLD) - The non-fatalcomponent of the diseaseburden; a measurement of the healthy years lost due to diseases or injuries.
Incidence - The number or rate of new cases of a particularcondition during a specific time.
Prevalence - The number or proportion of cases of a particulardisease or condition present in a population at a given time.
