In 1753, the famous surgeon John Hunter was elected as master of anatomy at Surgeon’s Hall.
He had a huge role to play in the understanding of anatomy and made significant contributions to the understanding of human teeth, bone growth, venereal diseases, digestion and more.
Hunter based his work upon scientific practice, this move towards scientific methods gave surgery far more credibility than it had ever experienced before.
High prices were also charged for innoculation, which the poor could not afford.
