  • chilblains symptoms?
    • small, itchy/burning swelling on the skin (skin may turn red or blue)
    • uncomfortable but treatable/ no long term damage
    • severe cases skin may break- sores/blisters develop
    • affects the bodies extremities- toes, fingers, heels, ears, nose
    • self limiting- will heal within a few weeks (once external factor cold is removed)
  • chilblains cause?
    reaction to cold temperature
  • chilblains referral?
    • severe/recurring chilblains
    • no improvement within a few weeks
    • signs of infection: swelling, pus, high temp, swollen glands
  • chilblains: treatment?
    • calamine lotion- ease itching
    • witch hazel- ease itching
    • balmosa cream- analgesic rubefacient- produces warm sensation on the skin to soothe/relieve pain
    • POM- NIFEDIPINE - relax blood vessels- improve circulation
