  • Gross to fine
    • the amount of body/size of the muscle groups being used to perform the skill will determine where a skill sits on the gross to fine continuum
    • gross skills involve large muscle groups, the movement doesnt tend to rely on any precision
    • fine skills rely on a small, precise movement and involve small muscle groups
  • Basic to complex
    • the amount of decision making involved in performing the skill will determine where the skill sits on the basic to complex contiuum
    • basic=chest pass
    • complex=catch and twist in the air whilst moving
  • Open to closed
    • the amount of things going on in the environment which effect the performance of the skill will determine how open or closed the skill is
    • closed skills take place in a stable environment eg, shooting
    • open skills take place in an unstable environment eg, centre pass
  • self paced to externally paced
    • the amount of control that the performer has over the start and speed of the movementwill determine how self or externally paced it is
    • self=choosing when to body up
    • external=passing/shooting
