  • Erectile Dysfunction (ED)
    Inability to achieve/ maintain a penile erection sufficient for satisfactory performance
  • red flag Symptoms of ED
    • Dizziness/ Nausea
    • Sudden decrease/ loss of vision
    • Priapism - long lasting painful erection, erection longer than 4hrs can damage the penis
    • chest pains which do not go away- sit in semi sitting postion to relax. DO NOT USE GTN SPRAY
    • Serious skin reactions : steven-johnson syndrome
    • hypotension
    • hepatic/renal impairment/ CVS conditions
    • if patient doesn't have ED, sildenafil will not work
  • Sildenafil (Viagra Connect)
    • Licensed for males over 18 years of age
    • 50mg tablet. One to be taken one hour before sexual activity
    • Maximum one daily. Sexual stimulation is required for sildenafil to work
  • Side effects of sildenafil
    • Headaches
    • Flushing
    • Dizziness
    • Nausea
  • Medications to avoid with sildenafil
    • NITRATES (GTN, isosorbide mononitrate)
    • VIAGRA CONNECT
    • NITRIC OXIDE DONORS (nicorandil)
  • Starting Viagra connect
    Advise patients to book a check up with GP within fist 6 months
  • counselling in ED
    Grapefruit juice can increase sildenafil blood levels
