Distance-Time Graphs

Cards (5)

  • Distance-Time Graphs
Graphs that contain information about the distance travelled by an object over time
  • Distance-time graphs can look complicated, but they contain a lot of information
  • Distance-time graphs
    • Can show journeys of objects moving in a straight line
    • The shape of the graph shows how the object is moving
  • Interpreting distance-time graphs
    1. Gradient = speed
    2. Flat sections = object is stationary
    3. Straight uphill sections = object travelling at steady speed
    4. Curves = acceleration or deceleration
    5. Steepening curve = object speeding up
    6. Levelling off curve = object slowing down
    7. To find speed at a point, find gradient of tangent to curve at that point
  • Speed = distance / time
