Solubility

Subdecks (2)

Cards (27)

  • SOLVENT - a liquid that dissolves another substance (usually solid) - water is the most commonly used solvent on Earth (liquid that a solute can dissolve in).
  • SOLUTE - the substance that dissolves in the solvent - common solutes that dissolve in water include salt and sugar.
  • SOLUBLE - a substance that can dissolve (in a solvent) - salt is soluble in water as it’s able to dissolve in water.
  • SOLUTION - a mixture that forms when a solute (solid) fully dissolves in a solvent (liquid) - sugar dissolves easily in water = sugar solution.
  • SOLUBILITY - measurement of how much of a solute can be dissolved in a fixed volume of a solvent (at a given temperature).
  • SATURATED SOLUTION - a solution that can’t dissolve any more solute (solid) (at a specific temperature).
  • INSOLUBLE - a substance that cannot dissolve in a solvent - sand is insoluble as doesn’t dissolve in water.
  • SUSPENSION - a mixture that forms when a solid doesn’t dissolve in a solvent.
