Advantages of representative democracy

• accountability- the representative can be voted out -example- many lib dems MPs lost their seats over a controversial topic which was raising tuition fees
• representatives can become experts
• practical for complex issues- address the covid 19 pandemic and required MPs to weigh up the difficulties faced by small businesses
• gives a voice to minority opinion- parliament has passed several laws extending the rights of citizens including the HRA and freedom of Info act
