  Behaviourist principles- all human behaviour learned, can encourage unlearning of behaviour - behaviour modification programmes reinforce obedient behaviour and punish bad behaviour
• Token economy

  Based on operant conditioning

  Tokens are called scondary reinforcers as they are not immediately rewarding

  Hand them in for primary reinfocers such as phone call

  Operationalise target behaviours by breaking down unto component parts

  Staff and prisoners made aware of scoring system and how much each particular behaviour worth - behaviours are hierarchal

  Reinforcement should outnumber punishments by ratio 4:1

  Staff must be trained - standardise procedures so all staff are rewarding same behaviours in same way, staff must also record when have awarded tokens so progress can be assesed
