• Like poles - repel each other
• Unlike poles - attract each other
• The magnitude of the force is proportional to the magnitude or strength of the field.
• If we double the magnitude without changing the charge or its velocity, the force doubles
• Electric E - created by a distribution of electric charge at rest in the surrounding space
• Metal - good conductor of magnet
• Charged particle at rest - experiences no magnetic force
• Magnetic force - does not have the same direction as the magnetic field B
• Magnetic force - always perpendicular to both magnetic field B and velocity
• Strong charge = stronger magnetic force
