• Golding published LOTF in 1954 which was inspired by the book Coral Island.
• LOTF was published post WW2 and the beginning of the Cold War.
• William Golding was an officer in the Royal Navy during the war which led to him witnessing a lot of violence.
• Golding spent 20 years in teaching young boys.
