  • The new right have a traditional view on what the family should look like. They dislike lone-parent families; the welfare state; abortion and much more.
  • The welfare state helps give basic economic security to people. The welfare state helps support families, the new right do not like this. They do not think the state should have involvement in the family.
  • New right thinkers believe in familial ideology. This is when the family should be nuclear, this should be supported by social policy.
  • New right thinkers believe that maternal deprivation strains a child's development which hinders society. Because of this, they do not like lone-parent families. They say that lone parent families stop children from being fully socialised and make them more likely to be criminals.
  • New right theorists also think that the family should look after their elderly members, not the state. State dependency worsens society.
