  • 1935 - saar plebicite - Saar was a rich industrial area which had been given on loan to lon. it expired in 1935 so a plebiscite was held to see if the land should be given to France or gemany. 90% voted germany. Hilter used this land for building weapons and industry.
    • Anglo-German Naval Agreement 1935 - many British people felt the tov was too harsh on the Germans. britain signed an agreement saying Hitler could build an army that was 35% of the British. Hitler took this as the British admitting that the TOV was unfair and that they could ignore the military terms of the tov. The military terms were officially dead.
  • Stresa front 1935 -Britain France and italy met to guarantee the terms of the locarno treaty
  • Locarno treaty 1926 - Germany accepted its borders - agreed not to go to war and support invaded country
  • Washington arms conference 1921 - Britain France Japan discussed how big navies could be

  • Franco - soviet pact 1935 - France and USSR - protect each other from Germany
  • Rome - Berlin axis- italy and germany germany would be able to have anschluss and Italy could rebuild their roman empire
  • Pact of steel 1939 - italy and german armies work together if war breaks out
  • 1938 police raided the headquarters of Austrian nazi party and discovered plans to overthrow Schuschnigg (Austrian chancellor) was scared and went to hitler for help. Hitler forced him to unban nazis in Austria. SChuschnigg resigned and a nazi became the new chancellor - he claimed that Austria was in a state of chaos and needed Germany's help. 1938 Nazis march into Austria - Austrians cheer and give give gifts

  • Hoare Laval pact 1935 - Britain and France met with Mussolini in secret. They agreed Italy could keep parts of Abyssinia. They neither consulted the League nor Abyssinia. The details were leaked to the press and caused a public outcry – but it was too late.
