Practical (Cog)

• The aim was to see whether music will lead to better memory recall of five letter words than processing without music.
• Sample was collected through opportunity sampling
• Repeated measures was used as participants completed music and no music conditions
• Participants had to Memorise 20, 5 letter words that were presented on a PowerPoint slide for 30 seconds. They did this with and without music.
• Independent variable was having to recall 20 5letter words with music or without music
• Dependent variable was the number of 5letter words recalled out of 20
• Ordinal data as the number of words called out can be ranked
• We used Wilcoxon for our cognitive practical

  Sample- 16-18 yr olds pyschology class. 5m and 5female

  Repeated measures design used

  1. 5 letter words presented for 30 sec with or without music playing
  2. Given 1 minute to recall

  No music= 9.9

  Music =7.2

  Results significant and found recall of 20, 5 letter words was better with no music
