  • Brixton riots 1981- fire that killed 5 black youths, believed the police were unwilling to protect black people
  • Brixton high crime rate
  • 11th April 1981 running battle developed after policeman was hit in the head by a brick
  • 300 police hurt, 100 vehicles destroyed, 82 arrests
