Beta

• An atom decays into a new atom by changing a neutron into a proton and electron. The high energy, fast electron is a beta particle
• Less ionising than alpha, more ionising than gamma
• Travels 20cm in air
• Penetrates paper/thin foil
• Partially absorbed by thick foil
• Absorbed by lead
