• The Temple Quarter needed regeneration because it was very run down, following deindustrialisation, which gave a bad first impression to visitors
• The traditional industries of ropeworks, timber yards, malthouses and glassworks had declined and this left large areas of derelict land
• Accessibility was difficult due to poor planning and a lack of transport integration
• There were high rates of unemployment

• The Temple Quarter Project is one of the biggest regeneration schemes in the UK and is taking place over a 25 year period
• In 2022 the government awarded a further £95 million to the project
• So far re-development has created 4,000 of the intended 17,000 jobs by 2037
• The redevelopment of Brunel's Engine shed, led by Bristol University has attracted a number of high-tech businesses, such as, Boomsatsuma and techSPARK, creating highly paid jobs in the quaternary sector
• The failure of Bristol Arena shows that funds are not always being invested wisely
