    • The Temple Quarter needed regeneration because it was very run down, following deindustrialisation, which gave a bad first impression to visitors
    • The traditional industries of ropeworks, timber yards, malthouses and glassworks had declined and this left large areas of derelict land
    • Accessibility was difficult due to poor planning and a lack of transport integration
    • There were high rates of unemployment

      • Council spent £12 million on clearing the site and now plans to use it for 'mixed use-shops, offices, housing and a conference centre
    • Brunel's Engine Shed

      • Re-generation of the historic engine shed at Temple Meads Railway Station into a new £1.7million innovation Centre
      • Includes micro-electronics, media and digital production companies

      2. London to Bristol train line has been electrified to shorten journey time to the capital
    • The Temple Quarter Project is one of the biggest regeneration schemes in the UK and is taking place over a 25 year period

    • The redevelopment of Brunel's Engine shed, led by Bristol University has attracted a number of high-tech businesses, such as, Boomsatsuma and techSPARK, creating highly paid jobs in the quaternary sector
