• Declaration of Indulgence 1672

  The declaration granted freedom of worship to dissenters and allowed them to hold religious services in licensed meeting places.

  • Showed King's dispensing powers that were supposed to be used in exceptional circumstances. Many felt he had no right to dispense of the law for a particularly hated section of society
  • Charles' withdrawal of it showed political judgement that his father had not had. Did lead to the Test Acts
