Cards (17)

  • RESPIRATORY SYSTEM - this organ system is responsible for taking in oxygen and expelling carbon dioxide.
  • NOSE AND MOUTH - entrance of oxygen in our body
  • NASAL CAVITY - also called passageways / the air passing thi part is warm, damp, and clean.
  • PHARYNX - our throat
  • LARYNX - voice box
  • TRACHEA: a large membranous tube reinforced by rings of cartilage, extending from the larynx to the bronchial tubes and conveying air to and from the lungs; the windpipe.
  • LUNG - main organ of the respiratory system
  • BRONCHI - two branching tubes / connects the trachea to the lungs
  • BRONCHIOLES - hair like tubes that connect to the alveoli
  • ALVEOLI - wherein the gas exchange happens
  • INHALATION - a process in which the oxygen enters our body
  • EXHALATION - carbon dioxide exits the body
  • INHALATION - ribs move out and chest space increases
  • DIAPHRAGM - muscle located below the lungs, it contracts during inhalation and relaxes during exhalation.
  • EXHALATION - ribs move in and chest space decreases
  • LUNGS - spongy organs where gases are exchanged with blood
  • INTERCOSTAL MUSCLES - muscles between the ribs that contract to increase the volume of the thoracic cavity
