The
Nucleus
contains the genetic material that controls the activities of the cell and the instructions to make new cells and proteins
The
cytoplasm
is a liquid gel/ "jelly-like" substance where most chemical reactions happen
The
cell
membrane
is a partially permeable barrier that surrounds the cell content, and controls what enters and leaves the cell
The
mitochondria
is where aerobic respiration takes place, the reaction that transfers energy for cells to use
The
ribosome
is where protein synthesis (using genetic code from DNA) takes place, making all the proteins needed in the cell
The
chloroplast
is filled with a green substance chlorophyll, which absorbs light needed for photosynthesis
The
vacuole
(
permanent
) contains a water liquid with sugar and salts called cell sap, which supports the cell from the inside and keeps it rigid
The
cell
wall
strengthens the cell and provides support for the cell. It is made of cellulose.
A
cell
is the very smallest unit of living matter
The small structures inside the cell are called
organelles
The difference between animal and plant cells is that plants cells have
chloroplasts
,
vacuoles
and
cell
walls
whilst animal cells do not
