  • Unelected and it’s main role is to examine and revise legistation from the HOC
  • hereditary peers are peers who are inherited from their father and in most cases past to the son only 92 of these peers can be in theHOL
  • Life peers- are appointed for life by party leaders and an appointments commision they don’t pass their title on to their children and these peers are usually a mix between former politicians and experts
  • In additon to life and heritage peers, archbishop and bishops of the Church of England are also members of the HOL and there are 26 of these
  • The LORD speaker presided over debates in the HOL and maintains discipline
