  • The Glorious Revolution was the overthrow of King James II by William III, Mary II and Parliament.

    • 1688 , five leading protestants write to William of Orange ( married to James’ daughter Mary) inviting him to invade England  
    • 5th November 1688 William arrives in England with 12,000 troops.  
    • James fled in a fishing boat to France and Mary/ William take the throne  
    • William and Mary agree to the Bill of Rights which places more power in the hands of parliament e.g. only parliament can raise taxes, no Catholic monarchs Â
