Theme: SUFFERING AND HARDSHIP

• Raimunda chooses to not think about all the bad things in her life that have happened and thats how she stays sane enough to keep on being a mother and an independent woman    
• Irene has lived in "purgatorio" ever since she found out what her husband did to Raimunda and has found it difficult to forgive herself for not being there to support Raimunda
• Sole, Augustina Tía Paula and Raimunda's family when she was young were all living in Madrid due to cost of living in the main city.  

  Raimunda chose to leave after marrying Paco because of how she hated her parents at the time and also to take advantage of the money that could be made in the big city
• Sole has been alone all her life even thought she lived with her mother. She had to open an illegal hair salon to make ends meet especially after her husband ran away and left her.

  Her full name is 'Soledad' which means 'Solitide' or 'Lonliness'
• Paula had a very traumatic experience at such a young age and has had to live with it.

  She was constantly lied to and left in the dark about numerous things that she should have been told 
• Augustina had been searching for her mother for the past 4 years not knowing she was killed by Irene. She also has cancer and her dying wish is to know what happened to her mother.

  She lives alone and smokes "cigarrillos" in a big empty house which makes her seem more pitiful
