Rocks and Weathering

Cards (8)

  • The three types of weathering are physical, chemical and biological.
  • erosion- wearing down rocks, e.g. rain
  • igneous
no layers, no fossils, non-porous, contains crystals
  • metamorphic
crystals, hard, non-porous, may contain fossils
  • sedimentary
    soft, porous, layers, fossils
  • intrusive igneous
they have bigger crystals as they are formed inside on of the craters in the volcano so they have more time to cool down because of the heat so they make larger crystals
  • extrusive igneous
they have smaller crystals as they are formed outside the volcano and have less time to cool down so they make smaller crystals
  • sedimentary rocks
they are formed by being weathered and transported into a body of water, then they are compressed where animals may be trapped in it. Then they are cemented with the minerals left from the water that is forced out.
