revelation

Cards (5)

  • Christians believe the Bible proves the existence of God because:
    ● it is inspired by the Holy Spirit, which means it comes from God and
    reveals God
    ● the Church teaches that God speaks through both the Old Testament
and the New Testament, showing his character and commands
    ● it contains God’s laws on how to behave, such as the Ten Commandments;
these rules are there to help people live as God intends so it has authority
by showing them how God wants them to live
    ● it can bring people into a closer relationship with God by learning
about what God wants and how God cares for them.
  • God’s revelation in Jesus Christ shows Catholics that God is:
    ● one whose main characteristic is love as he loved the world so much he
    became flesh in Jesus Christ
    ● one who forgives – he was prepared to die on the cross to bring
    forgiveness for the world’s sins
    ● one who meets people where they are as seen in the way he made
disciples of all types and classes of people
    ● one who brings healing, whether of body, mind or spirit, as seen in the
many miracles he performed while on Earth
    ● one who wants people to have eternal life, which he showed by rising
    from the dead.
  • Catholics believe that God’s revelation culminated in the
    Incarnation because:
    ● all the small revelations found in the Old Testament are summed up
and made even clearer in the life of Jesus
    ● in the Incarnation, God made a complete revelation of himself because the Son is the exact representation of God’s being so nothing more can
    be revealed.
  • The Catechism says that it pleased God, in his goodness and wisdom,
to reveal himself through Christ, the Word made flesh.
  • The Church teaches that this means there can be no further revelation of God after Jesus as God’s message to humanity reached its highest point in him. So, although there might have been religions formed after the time of Jesus, such as Islam and Sikhism, Catholics cannot agree with all that they teach because even if there is much in these religions that they can respect, God’s final truth came in Jesus.
