1. glycolysis

Cards (4)

  • glycolysis
    • in cell cytoplasm
    • doesnt require oxygen-first step of aerobic and anaerobic respiration
    • glucose is partially oxidised
  • first step
    phosphorylation of glucose
    • 2 ATP molecules used to provide 2 phosphates(PI) needed for the phosphorylation of glucose(6C)(ATP-ADP+PI)
    • this hydrolysis of ATP provides energy for glucose to be broken down
    • products= 2 triose phosphates(2x3C) and 2 ADP molecules
  • second step
    oxidation of triose phosphate
    • triose phosphates lose hydrogen(oxidised)- NAD collects 2 H+ ions for 2 NADH= 2 pyruvate molecules
    • 4 ADP= 4 ATP molcules produced
  • products of glycolysis
    • 2 x pyruvate(3c) molecules
    • 2 NADH
    • 2 ATP molecules(2 used and 4 produced)
