  • How the Qur'an was compiled to preserve it for Muslims after the death of prophet Muhammad PBUH
    1. Abu Bakr appointed Zaid ibn Thabit to compile all the written verses of the Qur'an into one collection
    2. Verses were verified by those who had memorized the entire Qur'an at the hands of the Prophet himself
    3. Concept of tawatur (multiple attested sources) used to ensure every verse was conveyed by the Prophet
    4. Zaid penned the completed text which became known as the Suhuf and gave it to Abu Bakr
  • With the death of the Prophet, the leadership of the Muslim community passed to his close friend Abu Bakr

  • To be 100% sure that a verse of the Quran was in fact a verse of the Quran, it needed to have multiple independent chains of transmissions from different memorizers of the Quran
  • The completed text penned by Zaid became known as the Suhuf and was given to Abu Bakr, becoming the official text of the Qur'an
  • They are urged to avoid sinful behavior and to seek repentance for any wrongdoing, understanding that accountability awaits them in the hereafter
