  1. sit on chair
  2. place forearm of hand across the table with hand hanging on the edge of the table (stops it moving)
  3. partner holds a ruler vertically with bottom (0cm) between thumb and finger in level with top of your thumb
  4. partner drops ruler without telling you
  5. catch ruler as quickly as you can
  6. after catching, check measurement and record it
  7. rest and repeat several times to calculate mean
• Place multiple tape measures along the length and width of the field, forming a large grid.

  2Use a random number generator to generate 10 pairs of random coordinates.

  3Place quadrats at those coordinates and count how many dandelions are found in each quadrat.

  4Calculate the mean number of dandelions per m2.

  5Estimate the total population size using our mean number of dandelions per m2 and the total area of the field.
